As Canada’s only border city located on the boundary of Alberta and Saskatchewan on the Yellowhead Highway the community offers the best of both provinces and is the main commerce center between the major cities of Edmonton and Saskatoon. Families, fortune seekers, and entrepreneurs are flooding into the region creating unprecedented growth.  Lloydminster was ranked Number 4 in small business creation among cities across Canada with populations of less than 100,000. by the BMO study “Canada’s Small Business Hotbeds; Latest Trends” .  Lloydminster also took the Number 3 spot in the country as one of the best places to live in “MoneySense magazine’s 2006 rankings”.  Lloydminster is one of the fastest growing communities in Alberta and Saskatchewan with a population now exceeding 24,000 and a service area encompassing more than 130,000 according to Statistics Canada.


There are many employers in the area but Husky Energy Inc. is the largest with plans for a new ethanol facility that will use about 350,000 tonnes of grain annually. The company is also planning on almost doubling the capacity of the Lloydminster heavy oil upgrader from about 80,000 barrels per day to a potential capacity of 150,000 barrels per day.  Lloydminster provides Husky with a stable workforce and has the necessary infrastructure including access to major rail lines and pipelines and it’s location along the Yellowhead highway. The potential for spin off and other industry is endless. 

 

The city offers a pleasant lifestyle to employees with many recreation and arts facilities.  The Vic Juba Theatre brings in many top ranked entertainers.  Many graduates of Lakeland College have been able to stay in Lloydminster to pursue careers right here where they got their education. The Lloydminster Public School Division offers 6 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools. The Lloydminster Catholic School Division offers another 5 schools in the city.  Other post secondary institutions include the Reeves Business and Career College .

The newly constructed CommonwealthCenter is one of many recreational amenities that the community has to offer.  The Bud Miller All Seasons Park and Community Leisure Center  are also among the many reasons to live in Lloydminster.
The Lloydminster Airport has a 5577 ft runway and regular flights with Central Mountain Air   and Peace Air Ltd .  Charter flights are available with Border City Aviation and Caravan Airlines.
